Tanja was born and raised in South Africa, and has been living in the Byron Bay hinterland with her husband and daughter since 2010. Tanja has drawn and painted from a young age. She completed the Byron School of Art’s Third Year course in 2017, having completed the school’s Second Year course the previous year. In 2015, Tanja completed the Certificate III in Visual Arts with the Byron Community College.

Winner of the inaugural Byron School of Art Student Prize, Tanja Taljaard exhibited works reflecting  distilled every day moments and altered memories called Falling Into Place at the Northern Rivers Community Gallery, April-May 2017.

“My work is influenced by memories, literary snippets, conversations and dreams. Fused together, it explores a sense of place, relationships and every day moments. My work often explores my own experience of a sense of place and coming to terms with change.”
